OSRAM celebrates 50 years of cinema - set in motion by the XBO lamp
The year 2004 is a special year for OSRAM and cinemagoers around the world. It is the 50th anniversary of the world’s first commercial film projection, made possible with the OSRAM XBO xenon projection lamp.
The revolutionary XBO technology earned OSRAM an OSCAR in 1983 for Scientific/Technical Achievement and the company’s commitment to innovation has ensured its use in cinemas up until the present day.
Reaching the milestone of 50 years as an industry leader highlights OSRAM’s continual enhancement of the XBO lamp, which has resulted in an outstanding reputation for performance and reliability. Today OSRAM offers a range of XBO lamps from 50W to 12,000W for every application.
OSRAM XBO milestones:
1949 - Start of XBO development
1952 - XBO 1000W lamp for 35mm projection
1954 - The worlds first commercial film projector; with air cooled XBO® 1000W lamp
1970 - XBO lamps for horizontal operation
1980 - Introductions of OFR (ozone free) versions
1983 - 1st Oscar
OSRAM intends to continue meeting the changing needs of digital cinema and large format video projection.
