Prysmian’s unique FP600 enhanced fire resistant cable has been independently verified by one of the UK’s leading certification bodies, re-enforcing its performance and reliability under increasingly onerous fire test conditions.

FP600 is now certified by Lloyds British Testing Ltd as compliant with the cable test requirements of BS7346-6:2005  following witness tests at Prysmian’s state-of-the-art fire testing facility. The new test requirements for BS7346-6:2005 involve an integrated fire test with the cable exposed to flames, direct impact (simulating falling debris) and water jets. FP600 has been extensively tested against these requirements and achieved the maximum 120-minute rating.

It is the first of a new generation of fire resistant cables to meet much more arduous fire survival requirements now demanded by regulators and specifiers, and is ideal for applications such as life safety systems, property protection and fire fighting systems in large and complex buildings that must remain functional in the event of a fire.

Julie Mould, marketing manager for Prysmian said: “This is independent recognition that FP600 meets the strict survival requirements, increasingly requested for fire fighting and life safety applications. We are the only manufacturer of a non MICC cable that satisfies this high level performance criteria, demonstrating Prysmian’s response to the greater demands consistently put on products, as fire safety engineering concepts are used in ever more complex building projects."

FP600 was used by Shepherd Engineering Services (SES) on the prestigious £311m HOCLAS Project (Home Office Central London Accommodation Strategy). Electrical project manager, Peter Edwards of SES said: "We chose FP600 for ease of installation, robustness, resistance to potential damage from exposure to site conditions and the installation benefits it provides over conventional MICC. It also met the approval requirements of the District Surveyor at the City of Westminster.”

Examples of circuits, which are required to remain operational under the BS7346-6 fire conditions include: atrium, basement, underground car park and shopping mall smoke venting systems; electrically operated fire shutters, and fire fighting lifts.

Prysmian and its authorised distributors hold stocks of the most popular sizes of FP600, which can be conveniently delivered to site within 48hours.  For further information email cables.marketing.uk@prysmian.com or call the sales office on 08457 678 345.
