The improper use of protective conductors causes concern.

RECI Inspectors have discovered several cases where contractors have used protective conductors, i.e. “earthwire” as signal wires between smoke and heat detectors in domestic installations. It was also discovered that the protective conductors were then accidentally connected to the earthing system of the installation. Contractors are reminded that under no circumstances should protective conductors be used as signal wires between smoke or heat detectors.
