Jimmy McClean, mechanical engineer in the Housing Executive's North East Area Office in Ballymena has scooped a major national award for his work on Home Energy Conservation. Jimmy received the top award at the Home Energy Conservation Authority's national conference held recently in Belfast.

As Northern Ireland's Home Energy Conservation Authority, the Housing Executive is in the vanguard of delivering projects to improve energy efficiency and is involved in many pilot projects to test new and emerging technologies designed to reduce energy consumption.

Jimmy is a key player in all this work. In managing the Housing Executive's extensive heating installation programme in the North East Area, Jimmy works in partnership with the contractor, staff in the local District Offices and tenants' to ensure the highest levels of service are attained. Through his 'hands on' approach Jimmy has deservedly received the admiration and respect of his colleagues and customers alike.

Jimmy has also been to the forefront of establishing and monitoring a number of pilot projects to test emerging technologies in the drive to improve energy conservation. These projects include the installation of air source heat pumps, solar panels, oil fired condensing boilers, wood pellet boilers and Micro CHP units at homes across Northern Ireland, each geared to identifying systems that can be developed and used in the future to help us be more energy efficient.

Tim Gough, Design Services Manager in the Housing Executive's North East Area has congratulated Jimmy on this accolade. He said:

"Jimmy's colleagues in the Design Team in Ballymena and all those who work with him in the Housing Executive are delighted that his commitment, enthusiasm and professionalism have been recognised through this prestigious award. Jimmy is dedicated to his work in the field of Home Energy Conservation and in pursuing this, his priority is always to put people first, a principle that has been the cornerstone of his success."
