On Thursday 25th October 2007, ABB held Power & Automation Ireland in Croke Park Stadium. The event was attended by over 350 customers including chemical, pharmaceutical, consultants, installers, occupational health & safety, industrial, and many more. The event offered an opportunity to attend seminars on current ‘hot topics’ relating to Power & Automation. These seminars included nuclear energy, 800xA, sustainability, energy efficiency, and harmonics, amongst others.

A total of 34 seminars were presented throughout the day, all of which were very well attended. Seminars were presented by representatives/experts from ABB factories and countries including Switzerland, Sweden, Italy, Czech Republic, the United Kingdom and the United States, to name but a few. The wide range of presenter backgrounds brought an extensive scope of expertise & information to the event.
In addition to the seminars, the event was opened by ABB Ireland CEO Frank Duggan at the plenary session. This was followed by keynote speakers including Minister Micháel Martin, Minister for Enterprise, Trade & Employment, Peter Leupp, Executive Vice President of Power Systems in ABB, and Peter Terwiesch, Chief Technology Officer in ABB. Minister Micháel Martin took the stage after Frank Duggan to discuss the importance of ABB’s continued success in the Irish economy. The Minister also discussed his views and goals about making Ireland an attractive business climate for future investment and continued growth.
Peter Leupp, Executive Vice President of Power Systems in ABB, discussed ABB’s perspective on a changing energy market, including problems that have arisen in this area, and solutions ABB has developed. Peter Leupp also stressed the importance of Power & Automation Ireland as a vehicle to creating solutions to these real world problems.
Peter Terwiesch, Chief Technology Officer in ABB, presented the changing trends in technology and the future of ABB technology over the coming years. Peter Terwiesch also took time to highlight the importance of Power & Automation Ireland in sustaining future growth and promoting new technological developments.
Power & Automation Ireland was a great success for ABB Ireland. Frank Duggan reflected on the event by saying “I am delighted with the participation and rewarding results that this event has brought. Power & Automation Ireland was a great opportunity for everyone to share in the power of collaboration.”
The only question on everyone’s mind leaving Power & Automation Ireland was when will it happen again?
