Rotary radio frequency control of heating appliances

24.06.2008

The new rotary radio frequency controller and receiver from Dimplex makes it simple to add controllability to electric heating appliances all around the home, for minimal energy waste and close control over fuel costs. As control is central to Part L of the Building Regulations, the system can aid compliance:

Giving advanced thermostatic control to 'dumb' appliances such as towel rails, which don't usually come with an integral thermostat - they're either 'on' or 'off' - the radio frequency (RF) control system fits well with the 'smart house' concept and is simple to install. It is ideal in new build projects where the entire property's heating control system can be constructed around it. However it is also suitable for retro fitting.

The system works by mounting an RF receiver near to the appliance, while the wall-mounted thermostatic controller can be installed somewhere more convenient, for example outside an en suite. The controller fits into a single gang wiring accessory back box and has a maximum loading of 2kW, more than adequate to control electric towel rails, and also to handle most other electrical heating appliances in the modern home.

A simple to use rotary dial gives the user control over the desired temperature, while a 30 minute boost button is great for a quick warm-up, ideal for rapid towel drying, without the risk of the appliance being left on to waste energy.

The unit is IPX4 rated as splash proof and safe to use in bathrooms and other wet areas.
