Question: In relation to emergency stop buttons for a workshop area (not a particular machine) in general. What are the rules in relation to the ETCI and HSA?

1. Height of pushbutton?

2. Should it be key locked or can it be just twist release?

3. Can a guard (cowling) be fitted around the push button to reduce the likilhood of accidental activation?

Answer: There is no stipulation in regard to the height of emergency stop buttons, they should be readily accessible in the event of an emergency.

A cowling should not be fitted around an emergency push button as it may impede activation. (Answered by RECI)
