Unite anger over Bank of Scotland in Ireland

24.09.2009

The Unite trade union, which represents 900 of the 1700 staff working at Bank of Scotland (Ireland), has expressed anger at the bank's reported unwillingness to communicate with staff over recent media speculation about the future of the business:

Unite is demanding that management at the bank move immediately to clarify the current position with regard to its review of the bank's operations.

There is huge unease among staff who are hearing many rumours about the future of the bank's operation in Ireland. There are, apparently, stories that the British government, as the major stakeholder, has ordered a withdrawal from Ireland.
