TC19 Insulators and Surge Arrestors for Greater than 1kV

13.04.2010
ETCI

ETCI TC19 was set up in 2008 in response to a request from Irish industry to monitor and contribute towards the work of IEC TC36 (Insulators) and IEC TC37 (Surge Arrestors).

The scope of TC36 is to develop standards on insulators for high voltage systems and equipment including bushings, insulators for overhead lines and substations and their couplings.

The scope of TC37 is the preparation of international standards regarding specifications for surge arrestors and other surge protective devices and the choice of arrestors to provide adequate protection of the system with satisfactory reliability.

Ongoing activities include following the work of Maintenance Teams MT10 on the Second Edition to IEC 60099-5, Surge arresters: Selection and application recommendations, which is at the CD stage, as well as MT4 (Metal-oxide surge arresters – Maintenance of IEC 60099-
4 and IEC 60099-6). A recent FDIS on IEC 62223, Edition 1 (Insulators – Glossary of terms and definitions) was successful. Ireland is a P member of IEC TC36, and an O member of IEC TC37.

Membership includes industry, electrical utilities, consultants and infrastructural providers.
