FP400 and FP200 Gold cable from Prysmian have been chosen for the re-development of what was the oldest international rugby stadium in the World, Lansdowne Road, Dublin. The new, soon to be finished and renamed Aviva Stadium will be the latest high profile sporting venue to benefit from Prysmian's cable being installed, after Wimbledon Centre Court and Twickenham Stadium.

Naturally, a venue of this size and importance requires the best quality fire resistant cabling money can buy. Therefore, FP200 Gold from Prysmian is installed throughout the vast fire alarm system with armoured FP400 used to power the life support systems. In total nearly 50km of FP cable was put into place over a period of 18 months. The choice of Prysmian FP cable meant installation times were reduced without a compromise on quality. Exclusive distributor for Prysmian products in Ireland, Precision cables of Dundalk, Co Louth supplied the FP cables for the installation. They also supplied approximately 85,000 meters of Prysmian MV and LV cable, used to bring power from the EirGrid network to the stadium itself and distribute power around the internal structure.
Sean Cox, Sales Director at Precision Cables said: “Working to strict time constraints on large installations such as this requires accuracy and is helped by products that are easy to install and save time. The Prysmian FP products chosen greatly improved the installation time compared with non FP cable as they are dressable, yet flexible and not prone to festooning.”
The new venue is designed as a state-of-the-art modern stadium with a capacity of 50,000 and a continuous curvilinear shaped stand enclosing all four sides of the ground with multiple tiers of seating for spectators. Insurance giant Aviva secured naming rights for 10 years. The first teams onto the pitch will be two combined provincial rugby teams (Leinster/Ulster against a Munster/Connacht selection) in a game already scheduled for August 7 this year.
