As part of its on-going commitment to industry training and development, Schneider Electric is not only sponsoring WorldSkills 2011 but has also trained the UK skills representative for the electrical installation competition.
The company’s involvement began back in March 2011, when
Schneider Electric was approached by UK Skills to support the training for two
electricians who were in the process of being short-listed.
The competitors went on to spend a week’s placement at
Schneider Electric’s LV equipment factory, Telford, where its dedicated manufacturing team helped to refine the skills of the
electricians needed to excel in the competition, and facilitate the appropriate training. The comprehensive programme covered distribution board and panel board wiring, commissioning and testing and practice with key electrical installation machinery.
Subsequently, Chris Young, a 21 year old
electrician from Somerset, won through to be selected as the UK skills representative for
electrical installations. He is now gearing up to compete in the international World Skill finals which are being held from 5 to 8 October 2011 at ExCeL London.
In further support of the prestigious event,
Schneider Electric has supplied equipment required for the electrical installation competition.
Louise Price, customer marketing manager for contractors at
Schneider Electric comments: “Energy is, by far, the biggest challenge for our generation and those to come. Therefore, as business committed to a better planet, we continue to invest heavily in our training resources to ensure the electrical industry is equipped with the skills and knowledge to deliver more sustainable solutions
“Naturally, the
WorldSkills competition is an important vehicle in this; after all it is today’s younger generations, from around the world, which will pave the way for tomorrow. We are thrilled to have been able to support the development of young people in
electrician installation and wish Chris the very best of luck.”
WorldSkills is a unique global competition where 1000 young people from more than 50 nations come together in 45 skill areas across seven sectors. Along with
electrical installations, there are competitors in a wide array of disciplines, from fashion to transport to gardening.
