Taking place on 5 November, the FCC is the world’s leading low-energy driving challenge, designed to demonstrate the future of motoring; where cars are cleaner and more efficient than ever before.

Now in its second-year, the challenge requires entrants to drive a 60-mile route from Brighton to London, using the least amount of energy possible. Open to the latest electric, hybrid and low-emission vehicles, awards will be presented for those vehicles judged to have made the least energy impact in their fuel category.

At the event, Schneider Electric will be taking part using its branded Nissan Leaf car. As a business committed to a greener future, the FCC presents a perfect fit for Schneider Electric as it continues to pave the way in the development of the UK electric charging infrastructure. Most recently, the company became the first manufacturer worldwide to obtain ‘ZE Ready’ certification from Renault for its EVlink electric vehicle charging infrastructure in recognition of its consistency of product and service internationally.

David Greaves, business development manager for electric vehicles at Schneider Electric said, “Energy is, by far, the biggest challenge for our generation and the automotive industry obviously has a huge part to play in this. The Future Car Challenge is a truly pioneering event, providing a unique platform to showcase the emerging era of efficient vehicles and technologies and we are thrilled to be involved.”

He adds: “With the UK electric vehicle market expected to grow to £7 billion (€8 billion) by 2014, it is vital that we provide solutions that can make these goals a reality. While the vehicle and charging technologies have come on leaps and bounds over the past few years, there is still a long way to go. At Schneider Electric, we are fully committed to continuing to drive the development of the UK charging infrastructure, to ensure we are ready today for the future challenges to come.”
