Electrical contractors Baudelaire Ltd have made quick work of installing a new fire alarm system at Alton College, taking half the normal time by using Pirelli Cable’s rapid FP FIREFIX™ system.
Pirelli’s FP200 Gold fire performance cable is used with FP FIREFIX™ throughout the new £1 ¾ million state of the art science block, under construction at the College.
David Sawyer, director of Hampshire based Baudelaire Ltd, the contractors responsible for the electrical installation, decided to use FP FIREFIX™ after seeing a demonstration. Sawyer said: “This is the first time I have used it and I think it’s great, at least twice as quick. I was amazed at how much it speeds the installation process – you just fire the clips into position ready to insert the cable. I fitted 80 clips in half an hour using FP FIREFIX™, with traditional methods I would have only fitted around 30 clips in that time.”
Julie Croasdale, marketing manager for Pirelli Cables said: “We are very pleased with the positive feedback about the benefits provided by FP FIREFIX™. The system has been proven to save time, which results in real cost savings for contractors. With safety of primary concern to clients both FP FIREFIX™ and FP200 Gold cable are ideal for use at the College due to their fire resistant qualities that are compliant with BS5839-1:2002.”
David Sawyer was so impressed with Pirelli’s system he is planning to use it on other projects in the future.
FP FIREFIX™ system allows the user to rapidly fix either one or two cables at once. Clips are available in red or white and are designed to take the most commonly used FP cable sizes. The system can be purchased from stockists of Pirelli’s FP200 Gold and FP Plus cables, in kits of 500 fixings. Pirelli are offering a 10-year warranty on installations of FP Plus and FP 200 Gold cables that use the FP FIREFIX™ fixing system.
