In continuing to bring new innovations to market to make the installer’s life easier, Schneider Electric launches the UK’s first electrician-friendly lightning protection devices.

A complement to the Acti 9 final distribution system, the iQuick PF and iQuick PRD type 2 surge protection devices (SPDs) have been designed for incredibly quick, easy and safe load protection for all low voltage equipment against surges caused by lightning strikes.

Unique to market, Acti 9 SPDs incorporate built in surge arresters and disconnection breaker circuit with full coordination warranty for easy specification and simplified installation. Making life even easier, each device comes complete with optimised cables and integrated earthing system connection instructions. The result is 50 per cent less wiring connections and saving up to 30 per cent of installation time.

Maximum safety is also accounted for with a Class 2 front face for absolute protection and unparalleled durability, whereby the robust external integrity remains intact even in the case of SPD destruction. Added to this, the disconnector includes a unique VisiSafe feature which provides reinforced insulation on the iC60 miniature circuit breaker and ilD residual current breaker ranges. This guarantees the downstream circuit is always safe, regardless of overvoltage conditions, wear, or operator experience, even in the most demanding environments.

Maintenance is also made easier with quick replacement of damaged surge arresters for minimal downtime. Plus, the facility for remote monitoring of the protection status of each device means installers can keep abreast on any issues without having to be on site.

Zina Shair, Power Solutions Manager at Schneider Electric, comments: “Our new Acti 9 surge protection devices are designed to ensure absolute safety and improved continuity of service against indirect lightning, while ensuring the simplest installation possible.

“Constituting the market’s first electrician-friendly offering of its kind; each device is pre-wired to avoid wiring error and the busbar is already mounted in compliance with associated protection requirements. This means that installers do not have to have specific installation training to ensure a safe and sound installation which adheres to all legislation.”
