19th Century school saves time with Pirelli FP FIREFIX™
Project director, Ian Blake of Blake Fire & Security Systems, part of Blake Contractors Limited, explains why Pirelli’s FP FIREFIXTM system was used; “Drilling large numbers of holes was not an option we could consider. As the school is occupied, we needed to look for an alternative method of fixing. We chose Pirelli’s FP FIREFIXTM cable installation system as it was quick, simple and did not generate a lot of noise. The FP FIREFIXTM system enabled us to fix either one or two cables at once in just 10 seconds.”
“We used the system for surface fixing into a variety of building fabrics,” continues Ian Blake. “The school is on many levels with different types of building styles; some parts have tall ceilings in the old part of the school and some low ceilings along narrow corridors in the old convent building. The means of fixing enabled us to set up our working area, carry out our work and complete prior to the pupils coming out of their lessons.”
Julie Croasdale Product Manager at Pirelli said: “The FP FIREFIX™ system was developed specifically to meet market demand for a fast, cost effective method of installing cables. In a market where the continuing shortage of qualified electricians and rising labour rates are major issues facing electrical contractors, Pirelli is providing a real solution with an efficient, standardised cable fixing system which is very easy to use.”
Founded in 1900 by the Ursuline Sisters, the school fosters the teachings and spiritual values of the Catholic faith. It stands on a wooded site in the centre of Brentwood, minutes from the station, High Street and Cathedral. The gardens include a natural lake and orchard as well as tennis courts and a hockey pitch. The academic results are also very high with the school being placed regularly in the Top 500 schools in the country.
The school has a record of excellence in sport and has produced over the years sportswomen at County, National and International level.
