The ETCI has announced 2014 dates for its popular 2 day ATEX Course and the Fluke Academy has scheduled a series of highly topical seminars related to test and measurement for 2014. RECI is developing an accredited training course for Qualified Certifier, which is expected to be ready in Q1 2014 and will carry 2 ECTS Credits and is a Level 7 award on the National Framework of Qualifications.

The ETCI Technical Management Committee has approved the publication of the 2nd Edition of ET214:2013 (Guide to the Selection and Use of Residual Current Devices). This Guide is intended to provide specifiers, installers and users of RCDs with a better understanding of the application, selection and use of such products. The PDF document is available for a free download.

ECSSA continues to receive queries from Members who have carried out work on the upgrading of heating systems for contractors working under the SEAI Scheme. The main issue is that SEAI have been awarding Penalty Points to Heating Contractors for the absence of a 10sq bonding cable in the hot press, even where the entire installation is carried out in Qualplex, or other non-conducting points. Construction employment has recorded its largest largest jump since 2006. Revealed in the latest CSO Quarterly National Household Survey, direct construction employment rose by 6,400 in the second quarter of 2013, with employment rising from 96,300 to 102,700 – the largest quarter on quarter increase since 2006. From 1st July 2013, all electrical Verification and Certification courses which grant a Qualified Certifier (QC) number must be accredited by Dublin Institute of Technology or City and Guilds. Contractors whose QC number expires before the 30th June 2013 can still attend the unaccredited RECI Verification and Certification course which provide a QC number valid for three years - additional courses have been scheduled to meet the demand.
