Engineers Ireland has appointed John Power, Chartered Engineer and Head of Corporate Affairs at ESB, as its new Director General. He takes up the position on September 3rd and succeeds Kevin Kernan.

A qualified electrical engineer, John was previously Managing Director of ESBI Consultants and has served in senior executive positions throughout ESB, including Executive Director of ESB International Services and Industrial Holdings, as well as roles in Human Resources and Corporate Change. Prior to joining ESB, he was a Technical Advisor with General Electric in the USA and in South America.
He is a graduate of UCD, holding a Masters in Industrial Engineering and an MBA. A native of Tralee, Co Kerry, he is also Secretary of the Irish Committee of the World Energy Council.
Engineers Ireland is the country’s largest representative body, with an ever increasing membership of over 23,000 engineers. The membership incorporates all disciplines of the engineering profession in Ireland across industry, the public service, semi-state organisations and academic institutions.
Based at Clyde Road in Dublin, Engineers Ireland has more than 40 staff involved in the promotion of the profession.
