FP400 Product News

Published: 13 June 2007 Category: News

Prysmian’s FP400 cable is the original fire resistant armoured cable. Although robust, it is simple to use and can be installed easily, without the need for any special tools or accessories. This means that installation time and costs can be significantly reduced, compared to using mineral insulated cable.

In addition to maintaining circuit integrity during a fire, FP400 produces very low levels of smoke and virtually no acidic gases thus helping to safeguard human life and protect equipment. Key applications of FP400 include essential safety circuits associated with fire detection and alarm, emergency lighting and, in particular, power supplies to building equipment used in safety systems.

FP400 complies with British Standard BS7846 Category F2 and is approved by BASEC. It is also LPCB approved to BS6387 Category CWZ.  FP400 meets the requirements of BS5838-1 for use in “standard” installations for fire detection and alarm systems and BS5266-1 for cables with ‘inherently high resistance to attack by fire’ for use in emergency lighting.

Witnessed ad-hoc tests have demonstrated the ability of FP400 to achieve fire resistant properties, which exceed the requirements of BS6387 and on this basis, FP400 has been specified on many projects where previously only MICC was used.

Julie Mould, marketing manager of Prysmian said: “FP400 is the reference product for contractors and specifiers who demand an armoured fire resistant cable that is easy to install and terminate, from a supplier they know and trust.”
