Thorsman-Solutions for Hospitals

Schneider Electric Ireland has completed delivery of the new Thorsman MWU 300 series Medical Bedhead trunking systems to phase 2B fit out at Mullingar Regional Hospital. The systems are an integral part of the fit out to the already completed shell and core building.

Thorsman designed and manufactured Medical Bedhead units for the individual departments in conjunction with consulting engineer, Building Design Partnership and electrical contractor, Mercury Engineering. The project included the design, manufacture and supply of fully assembled, pre-wired and pre-piped Bedhead units for installation according to customer specification. Schneider Electric engineers attended site to collate information prior to the preparation of autocad drawings.

A key feature of the installation was the use of the new Thorsman MWU fixing system. This unique system enabled the electrical contractor to pre-fix all the MWU brackets to the wall prior to delivery of the Bedhead units, thereby reducing installation time, and avoiding heavy lifting and positioning on site. Additional benefits included the ability to secure the Bedhead units to the wall without removing covers and faceplates, thereby reducing the possibility of lost accessories, compromising factory testing and damage to the product during installation.

Designed from experiences gained in the Irish market over the past 15 years, the MWU 300 is manufactured from aluminium profiles providing hospital wards with power, lighting, communications and gas for medical purposes. The length, colour, equipment etc of the Medical Bedhead units are specified in a Thorsman planning program which automatically takes account of the parameters that govern the equipment and its positioning. For example, outlets for gas and electric power were positioned in accordance with current safety standards and regulations. Every unit was given a unique serial number and underwent rigorous testing before dispatch to site. Guarantee certificate, test report, installation instructions, and wiring diagram follow each panel to site.
