Q. Arc Fault Circuit Interrupters are commonly used in the US and Canada. Why are they not so common in Ireland? Are they necessary?
A. We manufacture AFI devices in the Square D brand. There are some major differences with construction and mechanical protection of wiring between the American and European standards, therefore as yet the Standards authority have not introduced them into the European wiring regulations. Q. I have been asked by a business what is the current legislation regarding Portable Appliance Testing. I did a lot of this testing for business in England who had it done annually as there insurance companies had insisted on it. Where do Irish businesses stand on this?
