Indeed it is the question of product ‘quality’ which is very important. In the case of Pipeslice®, there are other similar products on the market but their quality and performance in the field is unlikely to match the original and genuine Kopex Pipeslice®.
So what should the would-be buyer and user of a copper pipe-cutting tool look out for? David Ward, Kopex’s Professional Pipe Tools Sales Director, gives some pointers:
- Take a look at the cost – a genuine Kopex Pipeslice® will not necessarily be the cheapest on the shelf – but it is true that ‘you get what you pay for’.
- Genuine Pipeslice® may cost a little more, but expect it to out-perform other similar products.
- Effective working life. It’s not designed as a ‘throw-away’ item.
- Major outlets stock the genuine Pipeslice® – from sheds through to national heating and plumbing product distributors as well as established local independents.
- They want to stock a tried and trusted product – one that is not going to be returned a few weeks later.
- The half dozen or so imitations that are on the market may well not have the spares or service back up that Kopex offers with genuine Pipeslice®.
- Remember the cutting performance. Genuine Pipeslice® is not easy to copy and that means alternative products may not have the same cutting performance. You may find the blade skids off the pipe as it may be difficult to engage.
- Ensure that exactly the right size rollers are incorporated in the assembly. They have a direct bearing on the tension and the performance of the springs - again affecting cutting performance.
- Genuine Pipeslice® is designed as a labour saving tool. It can generally slice through copper pipe after just two or three rotations and twists of the wrist - depending on the size of the copper pipe.
- Blades and springs are made from high quality tensile steel and, for durability in performance, genuine Pipeslice’s mazak zinc body with protective plating ensures a long working life.
In short, there is genuine Pipeslice® and there are other pale imitations. CORGI award wining products are recognised for what they are – high quality solutions to help the professional in everyday work. Taking shortcuts, by not specifying the original and genuine article, is likely to bring disappointing results.
