Leading wiring accessories manufacturer MK Electric believes it has the 'greenest' cable management products in the industry in terms of recycling:
The company's long term policy of sourcing 100% recycled uPVC for the extruded lengths, means that systems such as Prestige 3D offer the most recycled content of any comparable systems on the market. Across the entire range, extrusions and mouldings, the recycled content is in excess of 90%.
The use of recycled uPVC, which is made from waste, off-cuts and bar lengths collected from fabricators in the window industry, supports MK's commitment to sustainability in two ways; it diverts over 5,000 tonnes of material destined for landfill and prevents the equivalent tonnage of new virgin product being produced with the associated savings in energy, providing a significant reduction in carbon emissions.
With the emphasis on sustainability growing as a corporate issue and with the construction industry in particular seeking to improve the sustainable performance of projects, MK Electric believes it is well placed to offer environmentally friendly solutions in the cable management segment.
MD Mike Southgate said:" We are seeing a marked change in emphasis as far as sustainability goes. Initiatives such as the Code for Sustainable Homes, the 2012 Olympic Construction Commitments and the Government's Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) have put sustainability to the top of the agenda for the construction sector."
He continued: "We are making sure that all our stakeholders from the specifier through to the wholesaler recognise that MK fully supports sustainable policies. Our cable management products demonstrate that we have taken the issue seriously for some time now. Manufacturers have a responsibility to make more efficient use of materials. MK is committed to full cycle product stewardship, mirroring the approach of the voluntary commitment of the PVC industry, Vinyl 2010."
