As a part of its commitment to contribute to Sustainable Development, Nexans will upgrade from traditional wooden drums to drums holding the PEFCTM certification. In the course of 2010, all new wooden drums purchased in Europe will be certified.
Why PEFCTM?
The Programme for the endorsement of Forest Certification schemes is the world’s largest forest certification organisation. It promotes sustainable forest management – environmentally, socially beneficial and economically viable management of forests for present and future generations – through independent third party forest certification. Products labelled with PEFC provide confidence that wood based raw material come from sustainably managed forests.
Nexans uses approximately 350 000 wooden drums per year in European Union alone. Some 95% of this will be replaced by ‘green’ drums, produced with PEFCTM certified wood.
