Philips Lighting announces the launch of a new ceramic metal halide lamp for outdoor lighting, MASTER City White.
Like the highly successful MASTER Colour City CDM, it directly replaces high-pressure sodium lamps in existing luminaires to bring the benefits of superb-quality white light to our towns and cities.
The new lamp, coded CDO (Ceramic Discharge Outdoor), incorporates improvements specifically requested by urban lighting engineers. Philips’ massive research and development programme has always been driven by user needs. MASTER Colour City CDM, was developed for cost-effective city beautification schemes, and its white light is used in towns and cities throughout Europe to bring an improvement to the visual environment without energy penalty and only a limited increase in relamping cost.
Enthusiastic users reported that the lamp would be even better if: The white light could be made a little warmer for an even more attractive environment. Premature failures could be reduced over a full three-year life period to give even lower cost of ownership. Some means of dimming could be devised for energy saving and enhanced night time comfort. MASTER City White CDO meets these specific needs.
Firstly, the colour impression has been improved by moving it closer to the red, compared with MASTER Colour City, to give a warmer white light. Secondly, the burner design has been improved for even greater reliability – less than 10% failures after 12,000 hours use – and all ratings now have a three-year life expectancy. And thirdly, dimming of CDO lamps to 50% light output (60% power) is possible with Philips electronic DynaVision gear. Full details and optimum operating conditions can be obtained from local Philips suppliers.
Though it will run on SON gear without modification, MASTER City White achieves its optimal performance on PrimaVision fixed output electronic gear: 15-20% better lumen maintenance after 12,000hrs use even longer life mains voltage stabilization eliminates colour and light output differences between individual lamps up to 10% lower system power consumption over life MASTER City White (CDO) is available in ovoid (ET) and clear tubular (TT) form in 70W, 100W and 150W ratings. The CDM-TT/-ET is therefore fully replaceable by CDO-TT/-ET and will eventually be phased-out in due course.
