Over the last 12 months, awareness of tool theft has grown, and a recent survey has found that victims of tool theft are having to replace up to £5,000 worth of tools and can lose up to two days of earnings.

Tradespeople can now access standalone tool insurance from ECIS and its partner Covermytools. ECIS customers are entitled to a 5% discount off the regular rates.
The tools insurance cover provided via ECIS offers protection for loss, damage or theft of hand tools and portable power tools in the UK or anywhere in the world up to 30 days. All tools can be covered from up to a maximum limit of £10,000 per insured person, with no inner limit to the value of any-one-item.
With various traditional insurance policies excluding some of the most obvious risks, such as theft from unattended vehicles or buildings, Covermytools has developed its own exclusive scheme providing full cover for theft from unattended motor vehicles or a locked store or building.
What is covered?
- Specialist cover for all types of handheld tools and power tools
- Theft from unattended vehicles or buildings as standard (no additional excess applies)
- Cover limit options from £1,000 to £10,000 per person
- Choice of excess options from as low as £50
- Damage or Theft in the UK or anywhere in the world up to 30 days
- Premiums start from as low as £50 per year
“Victims of tool theft are not only out of pocket whilst they can’t work; it’s also extremely expensive to replace the stolen items,” said Vicki Leslie, Client Relationship Manager at ECIS. “Our partnership with Covermytools will help customers to insure their tools for as little as £50 per year. With insurance in place, it can give tradespeople peace of mind that should the worse happen, they’ll be helped to get back on the tools again as soon as possible.”
