FP Plus™ and FP200Gold® cables fully compliant with new standards

Whatever your fire resistant cable needs,

Pirelli today announced the following product updates relating to its FP Plus™ and FP200Gold® cables. Both products are fully compliant with BS 5839-1:2002 ‘Fire detection and fire alarm systems for buildings - Part 1: Code of practice for system design, installation, commissioning and maintenance’, effective for all new fire detection and fire alarm systems designed after 15 July 2003 (the date on which BS 5839-1:1988 was withdrawn).

Commenting on the compliancy announcement, Pirelli Cables’ Marketing Manager Gordon McKinnon, said: “Compliance with the new standards means that Pirelli continues to offer a range of fire resistant cabling to meet whatever needs our customers have. For standard installations, our FP200 Gold® range continues to be a market leader. Our new FP Plus™ range offers increased protection and resilience for enhanced installations, such as large unsprinklered buildings or premises.”

Independently verified tests carried out by BASEC on a range of representative samples have confirmed that FP200 Gold® is fully compliant with all the requirements for BS5839-1:2002 for ‘standard’ fire resisting cables, whilst FP Plus™ meets the same standard for ‘enhanced’ fire resisting cables.
Compliance has been demonstrated by tests to the following standards: BS5839-1:2002, BS7629-1:1997, BS EN 50200:2000 Classification PH30 + draft BS8434-1:2003 (FP200Gold®) and BS EN 50200:2000 Classification PH120 + draft BS8434-2:2003 (FP Plus™).

These new standards (BS8434-1:2003 and BS8434-2:2003) detail the test methods for the new ‘standard’ and ‘enhanced’ integrated fire, shock and water test required by BS5839-1:2002 and have now been released for publication by BSI and are expected to be available within the next few weeks. In the meantime, certification has been obtained against the final draft. The BSI Technical Committee FSH/12, responsible for the publication of BS5839-1, has confirmed the acceptability of this means of certification.
